There are a lot of thoughts on resumes (good and bad), but the truth is most employers want them. The good news is the best resumes are simple.Content is more important than design, as long as it’s readable.A resume only needs 6 sectionsContact Details

Network
The easiest jobs to get are the ones you don't have to apply for.Start with who you know.Everyone has a list.Pull everyone on your phone, social media, and email to create your network list.Start reaching out, catching up, and feeling out opportunities. While you're working through your list start building your LinkedIn network.Find others in a similar position you're looking for.Engage with their content.Connect with a personal message.Build rapport by engaging through DMs, calls, or comments. Then ask for the referral! Most companies have a referral program so don't feel weird, it's a win-win.Do the same with Recruiters.Find recruiters from the companies you want to work with and repeat the abovementioned steps.Do it right and you'll have referrals, interviews, and job offers in no time!Make this easy with the best relationship platform available- Clay.Clay is building better relationships, start for FREE!
Apply
This may sound easy considering all of the one-click-apply nonsense available with online job boards. However, chances are if you see that so have thousands of other job seekers.Instead, separate yourself from the market and take the time to search careers on the company websites you want to work with. Many of these are not posted on boards and have direct Recruiters and Hiring Managers linked to the posting. This is the beginning of the “hidden job market.”Navigating the hidden job market is a little more advanced but this is a great start.Less competition, more information, and usually better engagement. There are also Free online tools to help track your applications, the best we've found is Teal.Yes...they're FREE!
Interview
Congrats, you scheduled an interview! This is often the most overlooked yet most important part of the job search.Everything up to this point was to get here. You were submitting resumes and applications (tickets) to get access to the interview (the show). The interview is what lands the job offer. The interview prep is where you put in the work. This is your BAR exam, if you don't pass you can't land the job.To start, prepare for the interview by researching the company and position. Then create an interview guide utilizing your research and job posting. With your interview guide develop your stories to nail the interview questions.Utilize interview question frameworks.STAR - Situation, Task, Action, ResultPAR - Problem, Action, ResultStorytelling - Stage, Conflict, Action, Resolution, LearningAt this point, you have all the resources you need to crush the interview. Now what?Practice, practice, practice…Crush the interview! There are also some basic prep tools like Google Prep to get started.
Offer Negotiation
You made it through the process, and at this point, you need to maximize your earnings. For most companies, compensation is reviewed on ranges, your goal is to find the top of that range. In addition to the range, the majority of companies expect to negotiate and factor that into the initial offer.Recognizing this, you need to be clear through the whole process, do not wait until the end to answer this question.Don’t say “I’m open,” “It’s negotiable,” or "I'm looking to make $100k a year."Instead, "I'm interviewing for positions making $100k-$120k a year," or "The industry range for this role is $100k to $120k a year."Research and clearly articulate your worth based on what this position pays.Few offers are lost by asking for more, always ask!
